Corporate Affairs Commission Publishes Updated List of Companies to be Struck Off the Companies Register

On the 31st of July, 2023, the CAC published a list of 94,581 companies to be struck off the CAC’s Companies Register for failure to file annual returns as mandated by the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (CAMA). On 23 November 2023, the CAC published an updated list of 91,843 companies following the filing of annual returns by 2,738 companies.

By a notice published on 5th December 2023, the CAC has invited all companies who have filed annual returns to confirm within 30 days that their names have been removed from the said list. Any entity whose name is still on the updated list but which has filed its returns must notify the CAC by sending an email to compliance@cac.gov.ng. In the absence of which the company will be struck off the register. Once a company is struck off the register of companies, and thereby deregistered, it will no longer be able to lawfully engage in business.

The list includes companies registered between 1985 and 1991, and which have not filed up to date annual returns. This drive is part of the CAC’s planned deregistration of non-compliant companies.
