Last week, OTL Law had the immense pleasure of participating in the inaugural Global Creative Legal Summit (GCLS), which took place in Lagos from Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to Friday, September 20, 2024.
The GCLS, conceived by our dear friend and ally of the firm, Foza Fawehinmi, was designed to bridge the “legal knowledge gap within the diverse creative landscape” by bringing together creatives, thought leaders, experts, and experienced legal practitioners engaged in the creative industry.
The 4-day event was part of the Africa Creative Market (ACM) Summit, which also held in Lagos on the same dates. The GCLS kicked off on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, with a Legal Aid Day, where creatives in need of legal assistance received free consultations. The following day, masterclasses on Fashion Law, Personal Branding and Networking for Lawyers, Music Law, and Film Law were held.
Day 3 again hosted the Legal Aid Day and the main events began with an opening address by Foza Fawehinmi, followed by a keynote speech from Professor Bankole Sodipo, SAN, a distinguished expert in Intellectual Property Law. This was succeeded by panel discussions and the launch of Protekt-We, an academy aimed at training lawyers for the creative ecosystem in Africa. The day concluded with cocktails and networking. The final day of GCLS featured workshops on Entrepreneurship for Lawyers and a Know Your Rights session for creatives.
Our partner, A. Tope Tokan-Lawal, served as the Legal Aid Lead for the Legal Aid Day sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. She also participated as a panelist on Wednesday during the “Resolving Disputes, Protecting Creativity” panel. Additionally, our partner, Abayomi Osuntuyi, served as the main event’s compère on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
We extend our congratulations to Foza Fawehinmi, the entire GCLS team, partners, and stakeholders on a successful inaugural event and look forward to next year’s edition.
