Our Partner, A Tope Tokan-Lawal, and Associate, Esosa Osagie, participated in the NBA-SLP Annual Conference held in Lagos from 7–10 April 2026, themed “Evolving Trends in Nigerian Legal Practice: Global Perspectives”, at the iconic National Theatre, Iganmu.
The conference brought together delegates and distinguished members of the legal profession from across Nigeria. It featured plenary sessions with enriching insights and deliberations on the independence of the judiciary, public law, international legal practice, professional standards, and due process in legal practice, as well as the evolving role of the Nigerian lawyer within a global legal environment.
Across the various sessions, participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the future of Nigerian legal practice, particularly in a profession increasingly shaped by technological advancement, regulatory developments, economic realities, and global trends.
From the calibre of speakers and structure of the sessions, it was evident that the conference was designed to promote an inclusive and forward-looking legal practice, one anchored on excellence and the global competitiveness of the Nigerian legal profession.
The conference also featured a debate session, a cocktail and movie viewing experience, a Gala/dinner, and an opportunity to explore the city of Lagos, each fostering opportunities to network, engage, and build meaningful interactions across the profession.
A major highlight was the unveiling of the NBA-SLP Law Firm Directory, an initiative aimed at enhancing the visibility and global positioning of Nigerian law firms.
Overall, the programme provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on the direction of the Nigerian legal profession amidst evolving global trends, particularly the intersections of technological advancement, regulatory shifts, economic realities, and global competitiveness. It reinforced the need for continuous adaptation, intentional development, and sustained engagement as the profession continues to evolve.
